Serena Williams' US Open Journey ended on Friday night after a heartbreaking three-set loss to Ajla Tomljanovic of Australia.
The 40-year-old Tennis legend played her final tennis match on Friday, and was eliminated from the U.S. Open in the third round by Ajla Tomljanovic 7-5, 6-7 (4), 6-1.
"I've been down before. ... I don't really give up," Williams said. "In my career, I've never given up. In matches, I don't give up. Definitely wasn't giving up tonight."
Friday's match, likely spelled the end of her 27-year career in tennis.
Her opponent, Tomljanovic said, “I just thought she would beat me,”. “She’s the greatest of all time, period.”
The match was being played in Arthur Ashe Stadium. It is the same court where Williams won her first major title in 1999 at the age of 17.
Serena Williams struggled to catch her breath and keep up with the pace of the match, which resulted in her loss to Ajla Tomljanovic, who is 11-year younger to her.
